IMMERSE YOURSELF & RECHARGE
The Thermal Water Lakes
The water in the two thermal water lakes, "Emerald Lake" and "Crystal Lake," comes directly from the thermal springs and has a temperature of around 27°C. This means that even people who prefer “bathtub temperatures” can start the outdoor bathing season as early as May! 100% chlorine-free and biologically purified – without any chemical additives. Ensuring that all essential minerals and revitalizing benefits are preserved. On the 1300m² Emerald Lake, even stand-up paddling is possible!
Gastein Thermal Water
Gastein has been closely associated with health for centuries, even back in imperial times. The "liquid gold," as Gasteiners call their thermal water, is weakly mineralized and enriched with natural radon. Research has revealed that precipitation water seeps into the ground at an elevation of about 1,800 meters, sinks to a depth of 2,000 meters, warms up deep inside the mountain, and resurfaces at an elevation of about 1,000 meters. This water then emerges from 18 different springs, yielding roughly five million liters per day at a constant temperature between 36.2 and 47.5°C. This journey takes approximately 3,000 years to complete, ample time for it to be enriched with valuable minerals and radon!
What is radon, and how does this radioactive substance work?
Mild, natural radioactivity has nothing but beneficial effects when experienced within the framework of spa treatments. The noble gas radon escapes from the thermal water and enters the body through the respiratory tract and skin. It unfolds its healing effects inside the body before being completely broken down after approximately 3 hours. The body's immune system is stimulated, and the natural warmth enhances blood circulation.
The healing successes are further amplified by the elevation of the Gastein spa region. Our bodies adapt to the altitude, producing more red blood cells and thereby increasing the ability to deliver oxygen to tissues. The success rate of “The Gastein Cure” is remarkable: Up to 90% of patients benefit from alleviation of their symptoms, improved quality of life, and a reduction in the need for medication, if applicable. Chronic musculoskeletal, respiratory, and skin conditions are effectively treated with radon therapy. Additionally, radon therapy is excellent for immune prophylaxis.
Wellness meets 3000ers
In the Gastein Valley, you are spoiled for choices when it comes to the thermal spa resorts. Besides Alpentherme Bad Hofgastein, the Felsentherme in Bad Gastein is most definitely well worth a visit as well. Due to its location, embedded within the rock of the Hohe Tauern mountains, the relaxation experienced from the thermal water in the Felsentherme is even further enhanced, while the view from the pool of the 3,000-meter peaks is one-of-a-kind.
The Gastein Healing Gallery
What was discovered quite accidentally in the 1940s has since been proven to alleviate more than 25 ailments—the Gastein Healing Gallery! The secret lies in the combination of high humidity, warmth, and radon deep inside the Radhausberg mountain in Bad Gastein. Which makes a journey, a.k.a. therapy session, into the 2.5 km-long Gallery a truly unique form of treatment unlike any other worldwide.
